Nota di presentazione. Le ragioni di una collana

The series Le Età del Museo (The Ages of the Museum) was created with the aim of investigating, from a historical and critical perspective, the many transformations of the museum, a cultural institution now fully considered a non-neutral public service, which is aimed at the community in its broadest sense and interacts with it through exhibition design, communication and functions. The title alludes to the need to identify, analyse and recognise phases, redefinitions and continuous renegotiations: ages, in fact, that have marked the relationship between collections, audiences, institutions, professions and society, and which do not develop over time in a linear chronological order, but also emerge in isolation, in response to different demands, intertwining or adding up before reaching a clear overall definition.
