This book explores the role of traditional medicine in the mental health sector in Mozambique, examining the knowledge and techniques of the various actors involved and their relationships within the broader healthcare system and the range of available resources. Through multiple ethnographic collaborations, it seeks to clarify forms of psychological suffering as well as convergences and divergences in the practices of the different actors called upon to intervene. The authors adopt a broad definition of mental health in addressing both the issues at stake and the perspectives for collaboration between professionals in the psychiatric field and practitioners of complementary interventions, such as traditional healers and religious specialists. The cases examined span several areas of therapeutic experience and beyond: the characteristics of different practices and the existential and training trajectories of their practitioners; the role of so-called religious therapies (African and neo-evangelical churches, Sufi brotherhoods, and new therapies consciously inspired by Islam) and local categorizations; the organization of the psychiatric system and the therapeutic itineraries of patients and their families. "Sofrimento psiquico e linguagens da cura em Moçambique" provides a broad and up-to-date overview of available resources, the experiences of patients and therapists, and the possibilities and limits of establishing effective collaboration.

Abstract
"Sofrimento psiquico e linguagens da cura em Moçambique" provides a broad and up-to-date overview of available resources, the experiences of patients and therapists, and the possibilities and limits of establishing effective collaboration.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
