Sulla fortuna letteraria di Leone Leoni: dai primi libri de "Le lettere" di Pietro Aretino al "Discorso sopra li cinque sensi" di Luca Contile (1538-52)

Several literary texts mention the sculptor Leone Leoni (1509-1590) and his works between 1538 and 1552. These references, unusual in their variety and number, have not yet been investigated in all their aspects. The aim of this paper is to show that the artist's success was not only due to the agency of his patrons and supporters in the imperial party, but also to his previous links with influential circles of literati. These ties involved dialogue between literati and visual artists, mutual recognition, and sometimes integration between the knowledge and potentials of each of the two groups.

Le attestazioni dello scultore Leone Leoni (1509-1590) e di sue opere in testi letterari, oltre a essere inconsuete per varietà e numero, non sono state ancora indagate in tutti i loro aspetti. Scopo di questo intervento è mostrare che il successo di questo artista non derivò soltanto dall’azione dei suoi mecenati e sostenitori nel partito imperiale, bensì anche dal suo precedente legame con cerchie qualificate di letterati, che comportò anche un’interlocuzione, un riconoscimento reciproco e talora un’integrazione tra i rispettivi saperi e potenziali.
