This article investigates how the notion of novelty (καινότης) emerges in the Praeparatio sophistica as an evaluative category pertaining to Phrynichus' theorisation of style, and demonstrates that it constitutes a characteristic trait of the Praeparatio Sophistica with respect to both other Atticist lexica and Phrynichus' Eclogue.
