The present volume, “100 Years of Czech Ancient Near Eastern Studies”, provides an integral overview of Czech Cuneiform research, Ancient Near Eastern Archaeology, and related fields. In over thirty chapters, leading experts trace the history of their subjects, resulting in a unique and comprehensive compendium of a range of scientific disciplines. The monograph is divided into three sections. The first provides a historical outline of individual fields of study, with chapters covering specific historic events up until 1950. The second focusses on the second half of the century, including detailed summaries of developments in that period. These sections also introduce the most important personalities in each field, whose work and writings have had a seminal influence on their disciplines. The third section covers recent developments in archaeology and linguistics, giving an insight into the current state of archaeological and cuneiform research in Near Eastern Studies.
