Bedřich Hrozný: Texty a přednášky. Archeologické expedice a lingvistické objevy předního českého orientalisty

This publication represents the first comprehensive compendium of texts and lectures by Czech orientalist Bedřich Hrozný, which were gathered not only during a thorough search in various Czechoslovak newspapers and magazines published during the first half of the 20th century, but also by the extensive study of archival documentation. These are texts that Bedřich Hrozný published in the Czech language on his scientific discoveries in the field of ancient Near Eastern philology, as well as his reports from travels and archaeological expeditions to the Near East in the 1920s and 1930s. In addition to these texts, we also publish here the written transcripts of his lectures, which have been preserved in the records of the Czechoslovak Radio Archive and other institutions. Some of the texts presented here – particularly extensive descriptions of his trips to northern Mesopotamia and Syria as well as his archaeological excavations in Syria and central Anatolia at Kültepe – have so far been omitted in Hrozný’s bibliographies and therefore forgotten. They can now be presented to Czech readers almost one hundred years later.
