This contribution addresses the issue of test accessibility. Italian legislation establishes accommodations and exemptions for students who are medically certified to guarantee their access to education. The measures used are however sometimes ineffective to guarantee accessibility. The proposal of tests formulated ad hoc for students with dyslexia, which is found in some school textbooks, not only violates the principles of accessibility, but might also be ineffective because language aspects are not taken into account. Without sufficient theoretical awareness, it is not possible to guarantee accessibility. By identifying the difficulties faced by students in test taking, one can manipulate the language used and the test formats themselves to guarantee higher test accessibility and to avoid ad hoc tests.
