Percorsi lessicali ed etimologici tra Sicilia e Italia meridionale: un laboratorio sul Vocabolario Storico-Etimologico del Siciliano

This paper illustrates the broad range of research opportunities offered by a systematic study of the linguistic data collected in the Vocabolario Storico-Etimologico del Siciliano (VSES). Thanks to its modern and innovative methodology in the field of historical lexicography, VSES is an important tool not only for the study of the linguistic history of Sicilian but also for research on specific issues related to historical and general linguistics. In addition to the examination of lexical correspondences between Sicily and other Romance areas, the wealth and variety of information included in VSES allow to carry out research on many pieces of phonetic, morphological, and semantic phenomena. Against this background, the paper will also present a preliminary analysis of VSES data, especially for the Greek and Arabic components of the Sicilian lexicon.
