This paper presents the origins, aims, and development of "History of Classical Scholarship" (HCS), an open-access journal founded in 2018. The authors outline the motivations that led to its creation, situating the project within the broader landscape of periodicals devoted to the history of classical studies, textual criticism and the reception of antiquity. Particular attention is paid to the editorial choices that define HCS: its diamond open-access model, multilingual policy and commitment to rigorous peer review. The article discusses the journal’s vision of the history of classical scholarship as an inclusive and interdisciplinary field, embracing diverse intellectual traditions and methodological approaches. It also considers the relationship between the history of scholarship, debates on decolonisation and global classics, as well as the challenges of transmission and accessibility in the digital age. The concluding section offers an assessment of the achievements of the first seven years and outlines future directions, including the expansion of geographical scope, greater diversity among contributors and new forms of publication in both textual and digital formats.
