The volume illustrates results of archaeological research carried out between 2010 and 2021 by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice under the scientific direction of D. Cottica and in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC) at the site of the so called former Fondo Sandrigo, on the eastern bank of the river port of Aquileia. The volume presents data brought into light by archaeological stratigraphical excavations and geoarchaeological deep coring, along with data achieved by laboratory analysis and post-excavation study of finds. Although environmental changes at the site are traced from about 20.000 BC to present day, emphasis is posed on the interaction between environment, river and humans, focusing on the period from the I century BC to the VII century AD.
