Considering the current context of 150 years of Italian immigration in the state, the objective of this article is to comparatively analyze the narrative strategies used in the celebrations of 1925 and 1975, the way in which the migratory phenomenon is reworked, and the meanings attributed to it. While the Cinquentenário album highlights the glorious presence of the “Italians,” identified in the introduction to the work by the Consul of Porto Alegre, Luigi Arduini, as “nostra gente” and their still strong love for the “Patria lontana,” the Centennial album emphasizes the idea of a melting pot with the Portuguese, African, and indigenous worlds, which will generate a new social type, that of the settler.

Abstract
Considering the current context of 150 years of Italian immigration in the state, the objective of this article is to comparatively analyze the narrative strategies used in the celebrations of 1925 and 1975, the way in which the migratory phenomenon is reworked, and the meanings attributed to it. While the Cinquentenário album highlights the glorious presence of the “Italians,” identified in the introduction to the work by the Consul of Porto Alegre, Luigi Arduini, as “nostra gente” and their still strong love for the “Patria lontana,” the Centennial album emphasizes the idea of a melting pot with the Portuguese, African, and indigenous worlds, which will generate a new social type, that of the settler.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
