Abstract

This is an introductory contribution on the theme of colonization that does not aspire to present new data or propose original solutions, but only to illustrate the historical, institutional, and administrative framework within which the phenomenon developed in Rome that led to the relocation of residence for many of its citizens (or its allies) outside the Urbe (or their city of origin) and the establishment in new settlements more or less far away, endowed with administrative autonomy.
