This chapter engages with the material presence of different bodies of water in Colombia in Lorena Salazar Masso's opera primas Esta herida llena de peces (2021) and Daniella Sánchez Russo's Vigilia (2022). The objective of this reading is to see how these liquid ecologies, specifically the Atrato River and the water complex at the mouth of the Magdalena River, are constructed in these novels based on their material characteristics while at the same time carrying discourses about violence and the memory of the armed conflict. From a closed reading perspective and using a methodology-based material ecocriticism proposals, I explore how these novels propose new readings of these spaces as wounded waters and violent waters.
