Brittany, 1770. Marianne, a painter, is hired to paint the portrait of Héloïse, a young woman soon to be married to the man destined for her. Héloïse attempts to resist her fate by refusing to pose. On her mother's instructions, Marianne will have to paint her in secret: pretending to be her lady-in-waiting, she will have to memorise attitudes and features. The act of painting will be destined to secrecy, to the darkness of the night.
