A middle-aged poet, Charles Serking is desperately searching for inner balance. Between the reproaches of an obsessive ex-wife and falling in love with strange women, alcoholism prevents the man from fulfilling his job. His rebellion against society's impositions is shattered by his encounter with Cass, a prostitute with an irregular soul, lost in self-destructive delusions; Charles cannot help but be seduced by her. Her death can only lead him back to the margins of civilisation.
