Bodily Peculiarities and Lists in Ibn Qutaybah’s Kitab al-Maʿarif

The essay introduces and translates the lists of Kitāb al-maʿārif dealing with عاهات (bodily peculiarities). These lists could be useful from different angles: to see what kind of infirmities, impairments or bodily peculiarities were frequent in past times; or which categories of people Ibn Qutayba deemed worth mentioning (traditionists, poets, caliphs, jurists etc., keeping in mind that these categories are often overlapping); or the origins of the impairments or bodily peculiarities.
