In this article I try to show how the reference, and in fact belonging, to one of the four great Hellenistic schools shaped, at least in part, the philosophical contributions (i. e. reasoning and explanations) of the main Roman philosophers. The focus is on Cicero, Seneca and Epicurean school. The close relationship between rhetorical solutions and theoretical reflection appears undeniable and consciously managed through the distinct strategies adopted.
