How do social movements expand the space of what appears feasible and thinkable? How do innovative ideas emerge that can transform societies? This anthology brings together essays that present fieldwork on movements, mobilizations, and practices of resistance in Asia, America, and Europe, as well as essays that draw on the interdisciplinary dialogue between sociological analysis, political science, and ethnographic practice. Ethnographic attention to micro-practices and its interest in “marginal” or “peripheral” cultural phenomena highlights how they are often the privileged places for the elaboration of new forms of mobilization and lifestyles, thus outlining some constituent elements for the anthropology of social movements.

Abstract
How do social movements expand the space of what appears feasible and thinkable? How do innovative ideas emerge that can transform societies? This anthology brings together essays that present fieldwork on movements, mobilizations, and practices of resistance in Asia, America, and Europe, as well as essays that draw on the interdisciplinary dialogue between sociological analysis, political science, and ethnographic practice. Ethnographic attention to micro-practices and its interest in “marginal” or “peripheral” cultural phenomena highlights how they are often the privileged places for the elaboration of new forms of mobilization and lifestyles, thus outlining some constituent elements for the anthropology of social movements.I documenti in ARCA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
