The article presents a synthetic account of the main factors leading to the 1973 "oil shock". It begins with the actions taken by the Arab countries during the October War (or Yom Kippur War), and then moves on to Opec's role in raising prices and show that the events of 1973 were not the result of an exogenous "supply-side shock" that set in motion some unpredictable events, but rather a specific articulation of the crisis in the postwar global economic order, in which the agency of the oil-producing Third World states played a leading role.

Abstract
The article presents a synthetic account of the main factors leading to the 1973 "oil shock". It begins with the actions taken by the Arab countries during the October War (or Yom Kippur War), and then moves on to Opec's role in raising prices and show that the events of 1973 were not the result of an exogenous "supply-side shock" that set in motion some unpredictable events, but rather a specific articulation of the crisis in the postwar global economic order, in which the agency of the oil-producing Third World states played a leading role.File in questo prodotto:
