“Minne som konstruktion i Strindbergs naturalistiska dramatik. Med särskild hänsyn till Fadren”

The article, written in Swedish, examines the construction and reconstruction of the past in the dramatic dialogues of Strindberg’s major naturalistic play The Father (1887). It is included in an international collection of essays on Strindberg and Memory. How did Strindberg conceive of, and launch, his own naturalistic style, in the interplay between the adaptation of inherited models – Ibsen’s retrospective technique in particular – and the need to renew them and find his personal form? Harold Bloom’s idea of “the anxiety of influence”, as well as Péter Szondi’s theory of modern drama, focusing on the “crisis” that Ibsen’s and Strindberg’s plays caused in the history of drama, because of the excess of psychic contents in them, are discussed. Another difference from Ibsen is that Strindberg’s dramatic memory and dialogue with the past include his overt use of intertextuality and quotations, Shakespeare being the foremost example in The Father.
