The political element in Isaac’s notes to the Iliad is definitely not the most prominent. Still, the image of the most outstanding heroes and the comparative evaluation of their deeds and ethos does play a role in the overall consideration of the Homeric plot and narrative. Which are the signs of kingship in the Iliad, and who is the most perfect hero? Can these snapshots from Isaac’s exegesis be made to match the indications emerging from ancient scholia, and particularly from works on the ‘good king according to Homer’, ranging from Philodemus’ treatise down to the sixteenth-century author Christopher Kondoleon? The edition and translation of a number of relevant scholia might help to shed some light on this issue.

Abstract
The edition and translation of a number of relevant scholia might help to shed some light on this issue.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
