In this study we want to examine some key concepts used in the definition of Italian intercultural competence. Our goal is to highlight a critical perspective on this field, and in addition, propose a new model of intercultural analysis for the study of languages through literature. In doing so, we start from the social and negotiated character of intercultural communication in order to highlight the importance for foreign language students to develop a mind set of skills to effectively manage cross-cultural situations. For this purpose, the use of literature, with its cultural roots, is a fundamental and useful tool to facilitate intercultural practices for students, as it constitutes a meaningful communicative instrument with which to overcome the concept of a static national culture.

Abstract
In this study we want to examine some key concepts used in the definition of Italian intercultural competence. Our goal is to highlight a critical perspective on this field, and in addition, propose a new model of intercultural analysis for the study of languages through literature. In doing so, we start from the social and negotiated character of intercultural communication in order to highlight the importance for foreign language students to develop a mind set of skills to effectively manage cross-cultural situations. For this purpose, the use of literature, with its cultural roots, is a fundamental and useful tool to facilitate intercultural practices for students, as it constitutes a meaningful communicative instrument with which to overcome the concept of a static national culture.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
