The paper is the first organic outcome of a research activity aimed at measuring and analyzing the significant synergies and impacts that can be achieved by forms of remote working on territories abandoned and at serious risk of depopulation, the so-called Areas Internal. Starting from the dizzying spread of remote working for emergency needs, a study was launched on the impact that these new working patterns – treated with the appropriate distinctions by which they are characterized – can determine in terms of the geography of work on an area burdened by an accentuated polarization, between congested areas and territories experiencing severe demographic contraction. In this sense, the analysis of the starting conditions and a reflection on the prospects opened in this direction by the PNRR are prodromal, accompanied by an overview of some specific experiences and a review of the national and regional measures with the objective of a more appropriate inclusion of these forms of work in the productive and demographic context of the country.
