Abstract

An ‘archivist painter’ is the term chosen by Maria Morganti to define herself, identify her place in the world and at the same time declare how ‘memorising, archiving and being archived’ are fundamental actions of her poetics and pictorial practice. Over the years, the artist has given form to a complex system of cataloguing and interpretation that is much more than an archive or a meta-archive through which she rereads and renews her entire self. This essay analyses it is an ecosystem, as the result of an individual cosmology, and, as such, an environment that is both physical and virtual, and that Morganti inhabits by establishing relationships with the elements that constitute it or that, at different times, become part of it.
