The chapter presents the scientific foundations for the teaching of Italian as a second language at pre-school. Approximately 10% of school pupils today are pupils with a migrant background. In some pre-schools this percentage can be as high as 50% or 90%. As Bonifacci (2018) points out, being born in Italy does not make a child an Italian speaker. Instead, exposure to the language is necessary through Italian reinforcement workshops, particularly focusing on phonetics, vocabulary and syntax. The chapter will therefore also present functional teaching activities to enhance Italian as L2 for children aged between 3 and 6.

Abstract
The chapter presents the scientific foundations for the teaching of Italian as a second language at pre-school. Approximately 10% of school pupils today are pupils with a migrant background. In some pre-schools this percentage can be as high as 50% or 90%. As Bonifacci (2018) points out, being born in Italy does not make a child an Italian speaker. Instead, exposure to the language is necessary through Italian reinforcement workshops, particularly focusing on phonetics, vocabulary and syntax. The chapter will therefore also present functional teaching activities to enhance Italian as L2 for children aged between 3 and 6.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
