The objective of this contribution is to present a certification of competences in interlinguistic and intercultural mediation and interlingual and intercultural communication (Comlint). It follows a survey conducted by the Ca' Foscari University of Venice on the roles, areas of intervention and training programmes that characterise intercultural and interlinguistic mediation in most Italian regions. The article introduces Comlint certification based on a model of intercultural communication and interpersonal skills. It then presents in detail the testing and classification of techniques and strategies used by intercultural mediators including, for example, knowing how to reformulate, knowing how to adapt the linguistic register, knowing how to summarise, and knowing how to manage the flow of communication.
