In the early fifties Giuseppe Santomaso is one of the most Italian artists known and appreciated throughout Europe. There are many exhibitions in which he is the protagonist and the consecrations do not arrive only from the old continent but also from overseas, just think of the second prize received at the Sao Paulo Biennial of Brazil between 1953-1954. In the summer of 1954 Santomaso will also be recognized as best Italian painter at the Biennale of Venice.Silvio Branzi is the art critic of «Gazzettino», responsible for the third page of the main Venetian newspaper. And He has been a personal friend of many over the years artists such as Arturo Martini, Filippo de Pisis and is also very close to the youngest Giuseppe Santomaso. The friendship between the painter and the reporter is confirmed by the many postcards and tickets of greetings, letters that Santomaso creates personally for the critic over the years, especially during holidays, today preserved in the archive funds of the journalist divided between the Mart of Rovereto and the Gabinetto Vieusseux in Florence. The most important documents, kept among papers from the Florentine archive, they certainly are those concerning the year 1957: Santomaso, in fact, is preparing his first exhibition in New York at Grace Borgenicht Gallery on Madison Avenue.
