This chapter delves into the censorship of translated comics, with a primary focus on Disney comics. It begins by offering an overview of Disney comics, most of which have been translated into and out of various languages. Subsequently, it illustrates the diverse alterations that may impact the verbal and visual aspects of graphic narratives during translation, depending on the intended readership. The chapter thus presents multiple instances of institutional censorship and self-censorship that have influenced the publication of Disney comics in both authoritarian and democratic regimes. In the concluding section, it suggests additional areas of research related to censorship and translation, such as examining pornographic comics and political cartoons.
