The purpose of this chapter is to examine the ways in which Moroccan poet and scholar Mohammed Bennis has contributed to the themes of writing, modernity and space – three themes central to the Maghribi postcolonial culture. Some of his theories which make use of cultural geography and spatial categories will be considered. Further, a number of his poetic texts will be examined with the aim of better understanding the relationship between place and modernity.
