In the context of the translations and adaptations of the mythological fable of Echo and Narcissus from the Middle Ages to the 16th century - of which this article provides a brief overview - the Comptes amoureux de Madame Jeanne Flore (Lyon, 1542 ca.) offer a particularly interesting case of re-use of the myth, adapted to the didacticism of the collection. In the fourth of the Comptes amoureux, the rewriting of the Ovidian tale through the filter of the Roman de la Rose is condensed around the motifs of doubling, identity blurring and masculine-feminine reversal, from which emerge in particular an updated rereading of the topos of the "beautiful lady without mercy" and the anchoring of the figure of Echo in the ideological framework of fairy tales.

Abstract
In the context of the translations and adaptations of the mythological fable of Echo and Narcissus from the Middle Ages to the 16th century - of which this article provides a brief overview - the Comptes amoureux de Madame Jeanne Flore (Lyon, 1542 ca.) offer a particularly interesting case of re-use of the myth, adapted to the didacticism of the collection. In the fourth of the Comptes amoureux, the rewriting of the Ovidian tale through the filter of the Roman de la Rose is condensed around the motifs of doubling, identity blurring and masculine-feminine reversal, from which emerge in particular an updated rereading of the topos of the "beautiful lady without mercy" and the anchoring of the figure of Echo in the ideological framework of fairy tales.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
