In 1963 Lawrence Halprin, one of the most interesting American Landscape Architects of the last century, published a book entitled Cities, in which the taxonomic registry adopted to classify city spaces was backed by an ample sequence of photographs taken mainly by the author. This essay aims to examine Halprin's interpretation of the city as a landscape of open spaces, the choreography of which creates a modern order of perception, movement and townscape design.
