In his Book of Demonstration, Elias of Nisibis (d. 1046) presents in Arabic the identity of the Church of the East from doctrinal, historical, liturgical, and ethical perspectives, in an attempt to distinguish it from other Christian churches in the Abbasid Caliphate and beyond. The volume is divided into three parts: the first concerns Elias, his writings, and his context, as well as the examined work, its authenticity, and its transmission; the second is a critical edition of Elias' Book of Demonstration with an annotated English translation; and the third is a detailed lexicon, indexes, and bibliography.
