This essay analyses the role the autobiographical writing plays in the construction of the migrant identity, with a specific focus on the novel "Autobiografía del algodón" (2020) by the Mexican writer Rivera Garza, which unfolds the migrant history of her family and her experience as a migrant writer in the US. From a theoretical approach that involves the complexity of the migrant subject and their body in relation to the territory, the aim is to demonstrate how the autobiographical space renders the ‘Real’ of an identity which is both personal and collective.
