This paper traces the Qur’anic passages devoted to the journey of Noah’s ark, employing the traditional method of tafsīr al-Qurʾān bi-al-Qurʾān. By means of this method, several hitherto little-known or unexplored elements in Nūḥ’s story can be highlighted. These include: the ordinariness of the ark, which, through the expressions used to describe it - fulk, jāriya, dhāt alwāḥ wa-dusur, safīna - offers itself as a vessel like any other; and the ordinariness and repeatability of its voyage by sea, counterbalanced by the status of “sign” or āya assigned to navigation in general. The reference to some major commentaries allows us to confirm the commonness and irrelevance of the route taken by Nūḥ’s ship, and to advance the hypothesis of consequence in Qur’ānic thought, whereby there is a parallelism of movement between ships and stars in the aquatic element.

Abstract
The reference to some major commentaries allows us to confirm the commonness and irrelevance of the route taken by Nūḥ’s ship, and to advance the hypothesis of consequence in Qur’ānic thought, whereby there is a parallelism of movement between ships and stars in the aquatic element.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
