This chapter considers ideologies of communication in contemporary fictionalised orality (Teshigawara & Kinsui, 2012), with a focus on Japanese video games as a meaning-making medium. This chapter also delves into ideologies of creativity (Wilf, 2014) in the construction of virtual identities, drawing insights from conversations with independent video game developers. Findings suggest that developers are influenced by language ideologies and mediated registers, which they make use of in their games, leading to their circulation across media. They also creatively engage with ideologies of communication when writing dialogues, due to personal beliefs and attitudes about games shaped by media ideologies (Gershon, 2010).

Abstract
This chapter considers ideologies of communication in contemporary fictionalised orality (Teshigawara & Kinsui, 2012), with a focus on Japanese video games as a meaning-making medium. This chapter also delves into ideologies of creativity (Wilf, 2014) in the construction of virtual identities, drawing insights from conversations with independent video game developers. Findings suggest that developers are influenced by language ideologies and mediated registers, which they make use of in their games, leading to their circulation across media. They also creatively engage with ideologies of communication when writing dialogues, due to personal beliefs and attitudes about games shaped by media ideologies (Gershon, 2010).File | Dimensione | Formato | |
