In this chapter we offer a theoretically informed description of Vietnamese clausal syntax, through a parallel description of the structure of the extended verb phrase – the clausal spine (CP) – and of the extended noun phrase (DP). Our approach to phrase structure is explicitly comparative: Vietnamese is considered in a cross-linguistic context in comparison to areally and/or typologically related varieties, with a particular focus on East and Mainland Southeast Asian languages, as well as to more familiar Western European languages.

Abstract
In this chapter we offer a theoretically informed description of Vietnamese clausal syntax, through a parallel description of the structure of the extended verb phrase – the clausal spine (CP) – and of the extended noun phrase (DP). Our approach to phrase structure is explicitly comparative: Vietnamese is considered in a cross-linguistic context in comparison to areally and/or typologically related varieties, with a particular focus on East and Mainland Southeast Asian languages, as well as to more familiar Western European languages.File in questo prodotto:
