The contribution considers the concept of 'religious pluralism'. This category, more widely used in the social sciences in recent decades, is analysed by focusing on the disciplinary boundaries between anthropology and sociology. Reflecting on various national contexts is underlined the concept's usefulness for grasping contemporary transformations as well as its elasticity and the risk of vagueness.
