In 2018, at an international conference organised by the German Lost Art Foundation, it was pointed out that still, twenty years after the signing of the Washington Principles of Nazi-Confiscated Art, still many states, including Italy, were still lacking in provenance studies, thus making the process of finding and returning artefacts complex. discovery and restitution of assets stolen from Jewish communities and families Jewish communities and families during the period of Nazi-Fascism. In the same year, as a result of studies undertaken by the Horizon 2020 project TransCultAA (Transfer of Cultura Objects in the Alpe Adria Region in the 20th century), a monographic issue of the magazine "Memofonte" (No. 18), which systematised research on the fate of Jewish of Jewish collections during the years when the racial laws were in force in the territory under examination. These lines of research, together with the evolution of the international context which saw major museums strive to research acquisitionsmade in the period between 1933 and '45, marking a more proactive approach on the part of museum institutions not only to identify and returnstolen works, but also to educate the public on the importance of doing so.
