This research aims to answer a number of questions: does the language of medicine find space in the materials used for teaching Italian to foreigners? Does it find space in the teacher's didactic planning? Do the learners manifest the will and the need to deepen linguistically the subject? The research methodology used was of a qualitative nature and was aided by four diagnostic tools: a bibliographic reconnaissance in the manuals of Italian to foreigners, a comparison with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (Council of Europe 2002, 2020), an electronic questionnaire addressed to a sample of teachers, an electronic questionnaire addressed to a sample of learners. The questionnaires were disseminated online via social networks and professional associations. This survey, in its first phase, included a sample of 90 teachers of all levels and 186 learners of various ethnic backgrounds. It seems safe to say that the teaching of the language of medicine as a language related to everyday life is underestimated and needs more investment in terms of didactic attention and materials.
