This article offers an analysis of the notion of person in shamanism, with particular reference to the traditions of the indigenous populations of the Chota Nagpur plateau in India. In the first section of the essay, Filippo Magnani offers a reflection on the salient aspects that in recent anthropology have animated the debate on the redefinition of the concept of animism and on the relationship between the shaman and the invisible world. Passing through some aspects of the "ontological turn", Stefano Beggiora proposes an ethnographic case study among the Santals (and neighboring indigenous groups), experimenting with a possible field of application of the theories discussed.

Abstract
This article offers an analysis of the notion of person in shamanism, with particular reference to the traditions of the indigenous populations of the Chota Nagpur plateau in India. In the first section of the essay, Filippo Magnani offers a reflection on the salient aspects that in recent anthropology have animated the debate on the redefinition of the concept of animism and on the relationship between the shaman and the invisible world. Passing through some aspects of the "ontological turn", Stefano Beggiora proposes an ethnographic case study among the Santals (and neighboring indigenous groups), experimenting with a possible field of application of the theories discussed.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
