The essay offers information on the first Italian translations of Ivo Andrić that appeared in Rijeka magazines between the two wars, trying to highlight some little-known aspects of the author’s reception in Italy. The key figure of this period is Francesco Drenig, known in literary and artistic circles under the pseudonym Bruno Neri. His translations of Andrić are analyzed and compared with other translations of those years and subsequent periods in an attempt to enhance Neri’s figure, still little known in studies on Andrić.
