By reading Dionysius the Areopagite's Divine Names against along its earliest Syriac translation, the article aims to find the key to Dionysius' Neoplatonic theology, and locates it in the problem of mixture. Through its cautious use of mixture terminology and concepts, Dionysius confronts himself with the extremist Origenism of his day, and tries to defuse the latter's negative attitude towards the institutional church.

Abstract
