The contribution offers an analysis of Edgar Reitz's film "Die andere Heimat. Chronik einer Sehnsucht", which concludes the filmmaker's decades-long project on the notion of 'Heimat'. The analysis is carried out by relating the phenomenon of contemporary migration and the German 19th century depicted in the film, the narrative of which takes up the "Dorfgeschichte" in a period charged with economic and political tensions such as the so-called "Vormärz".
