Greek lexicography was not much inter- ested in foreign languages. This can be discerned in the prefaces to two of the most important lexica of the Byzantine age, which also yield important information as to the complex paths by which these lexica—the heirs to a long- standing tradition of lexicographical inquiries—were realized.
