Nomen omen: gli antroponimi teofori *Waxšu-dāta- e *Waxšu-dāθra- nell’onomastica centro-asiatica

The scope of the research is to analyse the theophoric anthroponyms connected with the God Oxus, ir. *Waxšu, which refer to the semantic field of the Iranian verb *dā- "create; pose". The Oxus cult, named after the river that crosses Bactria, modern Amu Darya, is attested from Achaemenid time to modern times, in a geographical context which comprehends Hyrcania, Chorasmia, Bactria and Sogdiana, reaching the Indian border. In particular, the theophoric anthroponyms connected with the God Oxus which consist of bahuvrīhi compounds referring to the semantic field of the Iranian verb *dā- "create; pose" are attested in Aramaic, Chorasmian, Greek and Sogdian, in a long period, from the 4th century BC to the 8th century CE.

L’intenzione del presente studio è di prendere nuovamente in considerazione alcuni tra gli antroponimi teofori legati al dio Oxus, , ir. *Waxšu, riferiti al campo semantico del vb ir. *dā- “creare; porre”. Il culto dell’Oxus, che prende il nome dal fiume che attraversa l’Asia Centrale, moderno Amu Darya, è attestato dall’epoca achemenide all’epoca moderna, in un contesto geografico che comprende le antiche Ircania, Corasmia, Battriana e Sogdiana. In particolare, i nomi teofori legati al dio Oxus, composti di tipo bahuvrīhi che presentano come primo elemento del composto il nome di Waxšu e come secondo elemento il vb ir. *dā- “creare; porre”, sono attestati in lingua aramaica, corasmia e greca in un lungo periodo, compreso tra il IV secolo a.C. e l’VIII secolo d.C.
