The castle of Sacuidic constitutes one of the many examples present in Friuli Venezia Giulia of archaeological sites fortified. The geographical area selected as the object of research in the archaeology that began with the investigation of the Sacuidic castle is in the Upper Tagliamento Valley. This can be divided into two parts: the part further upstream with the so-called Forni Savorgnani, that is, the territories of the municipalities of Forni di Sopra and Forni di Sotto, and the one further downstream that used to be the Socchieve Canal and today is referred to as the Ampezzo canal; this subdivision actually reflects an administrative differentiation that characterized these two districts between the 14th and 18th centuries, although, from the geographical point of view, this territorial district can be considered in a unified manner.
