The late antique settlement of Jesolo was characterised by a permanent occupation on the lagoon, with few lands above sea level surrounded by valleys and canals used as waterways. It is likely that a first settlement, thoroughly investigated during archaeological excavations, was established around a building that was part of the cursus publicus of the late Roman Empire. The structures belonging to the mansio were built on the most extensive area of the largest insula, which corresponds to the area now occupied by the ruins of the ancient Romanesque cathedral with an extension of about 100 m to the north.

Abstract
The late antique settlement of Jesolo was characterised by a permanent occupation on the lagoon, with few lands above sea level surrounded by valleys and canals used as waterways. It is likely that a first settlement, thoroughly investigated during archaeological excavations, was established around a building that was part of the cursus publicus of the late Roman Empire. The structures belonging to the mansio were built on the most extensive area of the largest insula, which corresponds to the area now occupied by the ruins of the ancient Romanesque cathedral with an extension of about 100 m to the north.File in questo prodotto:
