There are 3 distinct Sayan varieties in Mongolia: Altay Tuvan, Dukhan and Tuhan. They differ from each other in terms of geographical location, economic-cultural types (in the sense of Vainshtein 1972), and linguistically. This contribution aims to provide up-to-date information regarding sociolinguistic issues, language education and related initiatives promoted by indigenous communities, as well as future goals and perspectives, both from the emic and the etic perspectives, in particular for Dukhan.
