The essay traces the history of the Ateneo Veneto library: from the arrival of the first nucleus of ancient scientific books requested from the Napoleonic authorities, to the increase in volumes thanks to donations and finally the use made of them in the 19th and 20th centuries. Furthermore, the essay examines the role of the library as defined in the statutes of the Ateneo Veneto to conclude that over time, the importance of the library was slowly decreasing.

Abstract
