The essay offers an introductory overview to the study of shamanism, with a particular focus on initiation, knowledge of the cosmos and therapy. Going beyond the ontological turn of French anthropology, an innovative analysis of the figure of the shaman as an 'eco-dialogic' mediator of multiple worlds will be proposed here. The article was chosen as the introductory section of a book dedicated to the 'ancestral therapies' of indigenous peoples.
